ChatGPT is OpenAI’s assistant and the product most people mean when they say “AI”. It runs on the web, in desktop apps and on iOS and Android, and the current lineup is built on the GPT-6 model family.
What it does now
- Unlimited everyday text chats, even on Free (subject to abuse guardrails).
- Reasoning models for harder problems. Plus gets advanced reasoning with GPT-6, and Pro adds “Pro reasoning” on GPT-6 Astra.
- Deep research that browses, reads and writes a cited report.
- Image creation, voice chats (including voice with video), file uploads and data analysis.
- Memory, projects, scheduled tasks and custom GPTs.
- Codex, OpenAI’s coding agent, and ChatGPT Work for longer multi-step jobs on desktop, web and mobile.
- Plugins and apps that connect ChatGPT to other tools, plus Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Google Sheets extensions.
